Shades of autumn – red

Again I only have one photo to share with you this week.

Lake district weekend

We had a busy day on our first full day in the Lakes. After a relatively slow start to the day getting ready, cooking and eating breakfast on the deck of the pod we set off walking. We walked from the camp site to the nearest town Ambleside. When we have been to the Lakes in the past we have usually stayed in a B&B in Ambleside and after visiting a view of the larger towns it has to be my favorite. It took a good hour and a half to get there (stopping occasionally to take photos of course).

Reflections in the river

After browsing around some of the shops, we had lunch in a little cafe. Refueled and ready to go further, we headed up through the wood to see the waterfalls above the town.

I’m linking this photo up for Macro Monday.

A little more browsing around the shops followed by a couple of drinks in a pub and then we headed out to dinner at a favorite restaurant of ours. There is a small bar upstairs from the restaurant with live music on Fridays and Saturdays so after dinner we headed up there to enjoy a few more drinks before getting a taxi back to the campsite. The band that night were Beggar Joe who we both really enjoyed (even though only half the band was their due to illness, they were still fantastic).

Shades of autumn – orange

I have only one photo for the theme of orange to share with you this week. I took lots of photos in the lake district last weekend (see the first batch I shared here) and I still have many more to share with you but I’ve not found very much orange this year. Lots of yellows and browns but not much orange or red. This was taken a few weeks back at a local farm shop on a very rare bright sunny day. I love the light in the photo.

Pod camping in the Lake district

Last Thursday was my 30th birthday and we headed off to the lake district for a long weekend. We decided to stay in a camping pod (some might call it a shed!) on the shore of Lake Windermere. We were very lucky to have good weather. Here are a few pictures take around the site.  We spent a lot of time walking and I have many more photos from our walks to share with you later.

The camping pod. Since the weather was so nice we were able to spend a lot of time on the deck (wrapped up warm of course since it is October), reading (I’m reading this right now and loving it, so witty and fun and I don’t usually read vampire/scfi books at all), enjoying the view and the tranquility of the woods, cooking and eating.

Inside the pod. Excuse the badly composed photo with my bottle of pink lemonade in shot but this is the only photo of the inside I remembered to take! Basically the inside is completely empty and you have to take everything with you that you would usually take camping. The pod was surprisingly spacious inside, what you can’t see is down the left hand side of the pod was room for all our stuff (and we took plenty).

The view from our pod. You can just about make out the lake at the back there, we really were very close. In summer though that space would be full of tents.

A close up of the lake.

As we were cooking out on the deck I noticed the beautiful colours in the sky and couldn’t resist grabbing my tripod and heading down to the lake to take this twiglight photograph.

The beautiful morning light over the lake (above and below) and through the woods.

Shades of autumn – Yellow

We’ve just got back from a long weekend in the lake district (which is why my entry to shades of Autumn is a bit late). I took a lot of photos of the Autumn countryside which I can’t wait to share with you. These photos are the ones that fit the theme yellow the most.

Shades of Autumn – green

I heard about a weekly photo challenge a few weeks back focusing on the shades of autumn and thought I’d give it ago. The first colour is green. This first photo was my initial thought – a box of apples I was given from someones apple tree.

Then last weekend we went walking in the woods and I took this photo which I loved so this is my actual photo for green. I just love the light shining through the trees. It was a glorious day. We were experiencing a very late heat wave (it has passed now and it is back to grey, wet and cold). It was very strange to be walking through the autumn leaves on the 1st October in shorts! We even had a BBQ that evening and stayed outside till nearly 8 in shorts and T-shirts (unheard of most of the summer months never mind in autumn).

I took quiet a few more photos that I love but I’m saving them for some of the other weeks of shades of autumn. The photo below is my favorite photo from the week because again I love the light in the photo but also the vibrant greens and the composition.
