Scavenger hunt sunday

A day late due to a computer virus affecting my computer on friday. At one point it looked as if I had lost all my photos and documents (thankfully they were just hidden) and no they weren’t all backed up.  The virus is removed and thankfully I haven’t lost any of my photos (they are all safely backed up now) but it seems to have hidden and removed all the shortcuts to my software.

1. Sunset

I wasn’t able to capture a sunset this week so here is one taken in Tuscany last summer (the photos I was most worried about losing).

2. Black and white

3. A day in my life

Thursday 19th January, the day I passed my driving test.

Frosty

After an unseasonaly mild few days, we had very heavy frost over the weekend. The way the frost edged the plants, sparkling in the light inspired me to brave the cold and capture these images.

Shades of autumn – Brown

After the last few weeks of struggling to find red and purple, I am pleased to say brown was a lot easier to find.

Shades of autumn – Purple

I’ve struggled to find any purple in nature this autumn. I planned one last trip to the park this Sunday to see if I could find anything but I’m not feeling that good at the moment so I’m pulling one from last autumn. I hope this is ok, I’ve been really enjoying shades of autumn and didn’t want to miss out this week.

Lake district final post

This is my final set of photos from our long weekend in the lake district (find part 1 and part 2 here). The weather was absolutely glorious on our final full day so we backed up some sandwiches and headed off for a walk from Coniston to Tarn howes and back. Here are the photos from the walk (you can see my photos of the fantastic cafe we visited for well earned cake on the way back to the camping site and read my review of it here).

Again I only have one photo to share with you this week.

Lake district weekend

We had a busy day on our first full day in the Lakes. After a relatively slow start to the day getting ready, cooking and eating breakfast on the deck of the pod we set off walking. We walked from the camp site to the nearest town Ambleside. When we have been to the Lakes in the past we have usually stayed in a B&B in Ambleside and after visiting a view of the larger towns it has to be my favorite. It took a good hour and a half to get there (stopping occasionally to take photos of course).

Reflections in the river

After browsing around some of the shops, we had lunch in a little cafe. Refueled and ready to go further, we headed up through the wood to see the waterfalls above the town.

I’m linking this photo up for Macro Monday.

A little more browsing around the shops followed by a couple of drinks in a pub and then we headed out to dinner at a favorite restaurant of ours. There is a small bar upstairs from the restaurant with live music on Fridays and Saturdays so after dinner we headed up there to enjoy a few more drinks before getting a taxi back to the campsite. The band that night were Beggar Joe who we both really enjoyed (even though only half the band was their due to illness, they were still fantastic).

Shades of autumn – Yellow

We’ve just got back from a long weekend in the lake district (which is why my entry to shades of Autumn is a bit late). I took a lot of photos of the Autumn countryside which I can’t wait to share with you. These photos are the ones that fit the theme yellow the most.

Shades of Autumn – green

I heard about a weekly photo challenge a few weeks back focusing on the shades of autumn and thought I’d give it ago. The first colour is green. This first photo was my initial thought – a box of apples I was given from someones apple tree.

Then last weekend we went walking in the woods and I took this photo which I loved so this is my actual photo for green. I just love the light shining through the trees. It was a glorious day. We were experiencing a very late heat wave (it has passed now and it is back to grey, wet and cold). It was very strange to be walking through the autumn leaves on the 1st October in shorts! We even had a BBQ that evening and stayed outside till nearly 8 in shorts and T-shirts (unheard of most of the summer months never mind in autumn).

I took quiet a few more photos that I love but I’m saving them for some of the other weeks of shades of autumn. The photo below is my favorite photo from the week because again I love the light in the photo but also the vibrant greens and the composition.

Friday photos

We’re experiencing a rather late heat wave here in the UK and as I was walking home from work yesterday I noticed how beautiful the light was (it was approaching the golden hour). I got home and my husband suggested I grab my camera and we should go for a walk, make the most of the last of the warm weather. This is something we’ve never done after work before and it made a very nice change. We walked through the park, across a few street and then we walked along the riverbank a short way (I had no idea we were so close to the river but my husband runs along there quiet often apparently). I took about 30 photos and when I got home I edited them down to just 3 that I really loved.

This photo above is my first attempt and photographing a spiderweb. The focus may not be as sharp as I’d like but never the less I am pleased with it.

I love this photo of the sunset and the leading lines created by the power lines.

This is my favorite photo of the week because I love the colour and the focus. I took several other perfectly good photos of the roses in the park but this one stood out and made all the others look average.
